As much as we all love the outdoor adventures that come with summer, the skincare aftermath isn’t always something you want to remember fondly. Too much sun can leave your skin looking a little less than stellar. Add in some crazy back-and-forth “Is it autumn? Is it summer?” weather, and you need more than a few tricks up your sleeve.

Healing botanicals and antioxidant-rich products fit nicely into any skincare routine and are especially useful when the weather can’t seem to decide if it’s going to be hot, cold, dry, humid, or windy. Here are some of our favorite ingredients to help you gracefully transition between the seasons.

Calendula flowers have dermatological properties, including the ability to calm inflammation. Researchers have studied these flowers for their ability to protect against radiation, stimulate collagen, and fight off free radicals. What does this mean for post-summer skin? Products rich in calendula bioactives  speed wound healing, quell inflammation, and may even fight future sun damage.

If you’re dealing with eczema, minor ouchies, or dry, irritated skin, calendula can soothe the skin and give you some relief.  Our Skin Healer Salve is a fan favorite for relieving sunburn pain and itchy heat rashes. And many of our devoted customers rely on it to alleviate the burning and itching associated with eczema.

“I have eczema in the palm of my hand. For four years, i haven't had any major results with anything I've tried. I picked up a trial size, and within 24 hours noticed a big improvement. After 5 days, It’s amazing how It’s almost completely healed. Amazing!” – LC 8/8/22

Best known for its calming, soothing qualities, chamomile can be found in everything from tea to tinctures. The little daisy-like herbs have been used since ancient times to treat medical ailments and have long been prized by the skincare industry for their ability to calm inflammation and improve the skin’s natural protective barrier.

Sun sensitized skin may feel dry, itchy, rough, and downright uncomfortable, which is why we created our Wild Blueberry Lotion for Sensitive Skin. Whether your skin feels sensitive due to early autumn environmental changes or one too many days in the sun, this all-purpose lotion soothes irritation and repairs existing damage with a little extra help from organic chamomile, sea buckthorn, and aloe vera juice. Try applying it when your skin is still slightly damp to improve the absorption.

“This lotion is so light I honestly didn’t believe it could moisturize as well as it did! My skin feels baby soft and there is zero residue/oils left on my skin so I can immediately get dressed and be on my way. It’s pretty remarkable! My sensitive skin is grateful for this.” – Brittney 11/8/22

Nutritionists and physicians have long known the benefits of omega oils, which is why they’re so frequently recommended as dietary supplements. Omega 3 fatty acids play a role in the overall health of your mucosal membranes and are frequently consumed for their heart healthy benefits. Sea buckthorn is rich in omega 7, which also supports the health of your hair, skin, nails, and eyes. Since dry, windy weather often accompanies the changing of the seasons, your skin needs powerhouse ingredients to stay in good shape.

Research has shown that products rich in sea buckthorn oil help skin retain moisture while also improving its elasticity and cellular regeneration. Our Wild Blueberry Eye Cream features age-defying sea buckthorn as well as anthocyanins from wild blueberries, which are high in antioxidants and may play a role in preventing aging due to UV exposure.

My skin around my eye is very sensitive and the Indian Meadow Herbals Wild Blueberry Eye cream is the only one that does not sting my eyes, and I have tried many eye creams in my lifetime including expensive ones. – Susan 12/10/21

In addition to a host of nurturing oils, like coconut, sunflower, grapeseed, and sesame, we further enriched our Love Your Body Cream with both calendula and sea buckthorn oil to nourish your skin and soothe end-of-summer irritation.
